About this statute
Anyone who commits an offence under this ordinance is treated as a bandit. This provision says certain serious acts are punishable by death, attempted offences under the first paragraph are punishable, and preparing to commit a first-paragraph offence is punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment. This provision lists several violent robbery-related acts and says the person committing any of them is punished by death or life imprisonment. If a person commits one of the listed acts, they face death, life imprisonment, or more than ten years’ imprisonment; attempts under items 1–3 are also punished, and preparation for items 1–3 is punished with up to two years’ imprisonment. Committing any of the listed acts can result in life imprisonment or imprisonment for seven years or more; attempted commission of item 1 is also punishable, and preparation for item 1 is punishable by up to one year’s imprisonment.
