About this statute

This section lists definitions of terms used in the Act (for example "buyer", "seller", "weighing or measuring equipment", "prepacked", and others). The pound or the kilogram shall be the unit of measurement of weight in Uganda; the pound equals 0.45359237 kilogram exactly; the kilogram is defined by the international prototype maintained by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. Declares the yard or the metre as the unit of measurement of length in Uganda and gives exact definitions: the yard is 0.9144 metre exactly; the metre is defined by a specified number of wavelengths of krypton-86 radiation. The square yard or the square metre shall be the unit of measurement of area by reference to which any measurement of area shall be made in Uganda. The cubic yard and the cubic metre are the units of measurement of volume for measurements in Uganda.
