About this statute

Gives the Act its short title "Uganda Cancer Institute Act, 2016" and provides that the Act will come into force on a day appointed by the Minister by statutory instrument. Defines terms used in the Act: Board; Currency point; Executive Director; highly specialised medicines; Institute; Minister. Establish an autonomous cancer institute in Uganda to coordinate and manage cancer and related diseases, create a modern institute meeting international standards, reduce referrals abroad, ensure timely access to specialised cancer medication, and increase capacity of Ugandan oncologists. The Minister may, by Statutory Instrument, vest in the Institute the control and management of a health unit or part of a health unit that performs functions similar to the Institute. Members of the Board, staff of the Institute and persons acting on the Institute's authority are not personally liable in civil or criminal proceedings for acts or omissions done in good faith while performing functions under the Act.
