About this statute

Subject to stated exceptions, the Act applies to the construction and interpretation of Acts of Parliament, statutory instruments and other cases where its provisions are relevant. This section provides definitions for words and expressions used elsewhere in the Act. Defined words in Acts apply to their grammatical variations; masculine terms include females; singular and plural forms include each other. A reference to the holder of an office by the office title means the person lawfully holding or acting in that office at the relevant time. Says that any reference to "the President" should be read as referring to whoever is President at the relevant time.
