About this statute

This section provides definitions of terms used in the Act (for example: Board; cess; Chairperson; cotton; cotton plant; cotton seed dressing; cotton subsector; cotton variety; currency point; financial year; ginnery; indicative price; lint cotton; Minister; Organisation; outturn test; seed cotton; segregated area; zone). Establishes the Cotton Development Organisation and states that the Organisation is a corporate body with perpetual succession, a common seal, and may sue or be sued in its corporate name. The Organisation may, in connection with its objectives and functions, borrow money, impose a cess on sales of lint cotton, acquire and manage property, enter contracts, charge for services, and do other acts of a body corporate. The Organisation must promote and monitor production and marketing of cotton and represent all aspects of the cotton industry. The Organisation must perform a range of duties for the cotton industry, including monitoring actors (by registration), setting standards, providing classification services, supervising seed distribution, announcing prices and seasons, collecting statistics, promoting research and training, inspecting ginneries, and other connected functions.
