(a) No individual may perform the duties of a massage therapist in this state unless he or she holds a valid license issued by the board. (b) A massage therapist may not perform massage therapy for a sexually-oriented business, and shall be subject to Article 3 of Chapter 12 of Title 13A. (c) A massage therapist may not advertise or offer to perform services outside the scope of his or her expertise, experience, and education for any client who is ill or has a physical dysfunction, unless the services are performed in conjunction with a licensed physician, physical therapist, or chiropractor. (d) A massage therapist or massage therapy establishment may not advertise or offer to perform services on any sexually explicit website or online platform that promotes prostitution, sexually explicit services, or human trafficking. (e) Unless exempt pursuant to Section 34-43A-4, a massage therapist may only perform massage therapy services at or through a licensed massage therapy establishment. If a massage therapist is performing outcall massage therapy services, those services shall be provided through a licensed massage therapy establishment.
