Section 41-9-950 Creation; Composition; Terms; Removal.

(a) The Tuskegee Airmen Commission is created to consist of 18 members. The members shall be appointed by the Governor, with at least three of the members being residents of Macon County as recommended by the legislative delegation and at least two of the original board members being Tuskegee Airmen. (1) Three members appointed by the Governor from a list of six nominees submitted by the Speaker of the House of Representatives with one member recommended by the member of the House of Representatives from the district in which the commission is located. The Governor shall make the appointments from the list within 10 days of the submission of the list or may ask for a new list of nominees. (2) Three members appointed by the Governor from a list of six nominees submitted by the Presiding Officer of the Senate with one member recommended by the member of the Senate from the district in which the commission is located. (3) Three members appointed by the Board of Trustees of Tuskegee University. (4) Nine members appointed by the Governor. (b) The terms of the members of the first commission shall be four years for nine members and eight years for the remaining nine members. After the expiration of the terms of the initial members, all members shall be appointed for terms of eight years. (c) Any member of the commission may be removed by the Governor for cause, and vacancies in the commission shall be filled by the Governor by appointment of a competent and qualified person for the unexpired term.
