The commission is created to investigate a vocational trade school for Birmingham and must report its findings to the Legislature by the 10th legislative day of the 2008 Regular Session.
(a) The Birmingham Vocational Trade School Commission is created to investigate the establishment of a vocational trade school for the City of Birmingham. (b) The commission shall be composed of the following individuals: (1) One member of the Alabama House of Representatives whose district lies entirely within the City of Birmingham. (2) One member of the Alabama Senate whose district is the largest in city population in the City of Birmingham. (3) The president, or his or her designee, of the City of Birmingham Board of Education. (4) The Superintendent of Education, or his or her designee, of the City of Birmingham school system. (5) The president, or his or her designee, of the City of Birmingham Parent Teacher Association. (6) The president, or his or her designee, of the Community Advisory Board of Birmingham. (7) The president, or his or her designee, of the Ministerial Alliance of Birmingham. (8) The Mayor of the City of Birmingham, or his or her designee. (9) The principal of an elementary school located in Birmingham appointed by the members of the City of Birmingham Board of Education. (10) The principal of a middle school located in Birmingham appointed by the members of the City of Birmingham Board of Education. (11) The principal of a high school located in Birmingham appointed by the members of the City of Birmingham Board of Education. (12) The Chair of the Birmingham City Council or their designee. (c) Members shall serve without compensation. (d) The commission shall study the feasibility of establishing a vocational trade school for the City of Birmingham. The commission shall report its findings, conclusions, and recommendations to the Legislature not later than the 10th legislative day of the 2008 Regular Session.
