A pharmacist who meets the qualifications established by the board to supervise the training of a pharmacy intern shall comply with the rules of the board and be known as a pharmacy intern preceptor. B. A person shall not act as a pharmacy intern until that person is licensed by the board. An employer shall verify that a person is currently licensed as a pharmacy intern before the employer allows that person to act as a pharmacy intern. C. The board shall establish the preliminary educational qualifications for all pharmacy interns, which may include enrollment and attendance in a school or college of pharmacy approved by the board. D. A pharmacy intern who is currently licensed may be employed in a pharmacy or any other place approved and authorized by the board for training interns and shall receive instruction in the practice of pharmacy, including manufacturing, wholesaling, dispensing of drugs and devices, compounding and dispensing prescription orders, clinical pharmacy, providing drug information, keeping records and making reports required by state and federal laws and other experience that, in the discretion of the board, provides the intern with the necessary experience to practice the profession of pharmacy. Pharmacy interns may compound, dispense and sell drugs, devices and poisons or perform other duties of a pharmacist only in the presence and under the immediate personal supervision of a pharmacist. E. Intern training and licensure as a pharmacy intern under this section are for the purpose of acquiring practical experience in the practice of the profession of pharmacy before becoming licensed as a pharmacist and are not for the purpose of continued licensure under the pharmacy laws. If a pharmacy intern fails to complete pharmacy education within a period of six years, the intern is not eligible for relicensure as an intern without an acceptable explanation to the board that the intern intends to be and is working toward becoming a pharmacist. F. The board may accept the experience of a pharmacy intern acquired in another jurisdiction on proper certification by the other jurisdiction.
