About this statute
Notaries may choose tamper-evident technology for electronic-record notarizations, but others cannot require an unselected technology. Before a notary’s first electronic-record notarization, the notary must notify the secretary of state and identify the technology. If state standards exist, the technology must meet them. County recorders must accept an accurate tangible copy of an electronic record with a notarial certificate as an original.
