Iowa Code § 331.503 - General powers
The auditor may administer oaths and affirmations and may appoint or remove deputies, clerks, and assistants, subject to section 331.903. If temporary assistants are used without a deputy auditor, the auditor must file a bill with the board at its next meeting, and the board must allow reasonable compensation.
