Iowa Code § 351.39 - Confinement
A local board of health must order an owner to confine a biting or rabies-suspected animal; if the owner does not comply, the board may impound it and, after ten days, may destroy it humanely. If the animal is returned, the owner must pay impoundment costs, except for certain police service dog or law-enforcement horse
