Iowa Code § 80.3 - Vacancy
A commissioner of public safety appointed while the general assembly is not in session serves at the governor’s pleasure, and the term ends 30 days after the general assembly next meets in regular session unless the senate approves the commissioner by a two-thirds vote during that period.
