§844.56. Impact of local government providing covered service, cable television or telecommunications or advanced services A. When local government provides a covered service pursuant to the provisions of this Chapter, any obligation of any other person to provide such service pursuant to any ordinance, contract, franchise or other means to provide institutional networks; public, educational and governmental access requirements; system rebuild requirements; monetary contribution or any other similar obligation shall be suspended. B. The suspension required under this Section shall commence on the date the local government announces that the particular covered service or services is operational and available to any citizen within its jurisdictional boundaries. C. The suspension required under this Section shall remain in full force and effect until such time as the monetary amount of the like obligations provided by the local government equals the monetary amount provided by the private operators for the previous ten years. D. The suspension of obligations of other persons established by Subsections A, B, and C of this Section shall not apply to any obligation of such other person with a local governing authority that has held an election pursuant to R.S. 45:844.50(A).
