§1665. Reorganization procedure The owners of a majority of acreage of the lands in each drainage district, desiring to reorganize or to consolidate and reorganize under the provisions of this Part, shall present a petition to that effect to the police jury of the parish in which the drainage district or districts is situated, or if situated in more than one parish, then to the police jury of the parish in which the greater portion of the lands of the district or districts is situated. The petition shall contain a statement showing the name and boundaries of the drainage district or districts, the name desired for the reorganized drainage district, and shall be accompanied by a certificate as to the land owners and acreage as provided in R.S. 38:1604. The petition shall be approved by the board of commissioners of each drainage district, and shall be accompanied by the approval of the Department of Public Works as provided in R.S. 38:1605. The police jury shall adopt an ordinance creating the reorganized drainage district, and appointing commissioners therefor in the same manner as provided in this Part for creating new drainage districts. The ordinance shall be recorded by the clerk of court and recorder of each parish in which is situated any land in the reorganized drainage district in the drainage district record of his office.
