§2572. Impounding livestock; sale if not redeemed The levee commissioners of a district and the office of engineering may impound or cause to be impounded any horses, mules, cattle, hogs, sheep, or other livestock of any description found violating this Part, and hold them impounded until the owner of the livestock shall redeem them by paying the expenses of impounding and keeping the stock. In case the stock is not redeemed from impoundment within eight days of notification to the owner of the impoundment and pending sale, then it shall be the duty of the constable to proceed to the place of impounding, and there, without previous advertisement, sell the animals thus impounded for cash to the highest bidder, except that in the cases of horses and mules, they shall be disposed of as is now provided by law in the several parishes for strays.
