§5585. Drawing from allowance A. The civil sheriff shall draw his allowance for his salary, deputies, clerical force, and assistants from the salary and expense fund, one-twelfth each month, plus any amount to pay other expenses and claims due. Except as authorized by R.S. 33:1504, the sheriff shall not draw the allowance unless it is on deposit to the credit of the fund. If the salary and allowance for any month is not drawn for the reason that the fund has an insufficient amount, the deficit may be made up and drawn from any subsequent allowance. B. The City of New Orleans shall budget annually a sum not less than twenty thousand dollars which sum or part thereof shall be payable to the civil sheriff at the end of any calendar year on his requisition for any deficiency that may exist in the operation of his office for that year.
