The secretary of state must prepare election-related posters, pamphlets, and examinations, and some of those materials need attorney general approval.
PART II. ELECTION OFFICIALS SUBPART A. GENERAL PROVISIONS §421. Secretary of state; first assistant and other employees of the secretary of state A. The secretary of state is the chief election officer of the state. Except as otherwise provided by law, the first assistant appointed by the secretary of state possesses all the powers and authority granted by law to the secretary of state and may perform any of the duties and exercise any of the functions of the secretary of state. The first assistant and other employees of the secretary of state are subject to his direction and supervision and shall perform the duties assigned to them by law and by the secretary of state. The secretary of state is responsible for the performance or nonperformance of their official duties by his first assistant and other employees. B. The secretary of state shall develop and print the voters' bill of rights posters for voters and commissioners, which shall not be inconsistent with the constitution and laws of the United States or of this state and which shall be approved by the attorney general. C. The secretary of state shall develop an informational pamphlet for the use of commissioners-in-charge and commissioners on election day, which shall contain instructions concerning the procedures to be used in conducting the election at the polls, counting and tabulating the votes, and transmitting the election returns and other election records. The pamphlet shall explain the powers and duties of commissioners-in-charge, commissioners, and watchers. D. The secretary of state shall prepare examinations for commissioners and commissioners-in-charge as required in R.S. 18:431.1. E. The informational pamphlet and examinations provided for in Subsections C and D of this Section shall be subject to approval as to content by the attorney general. Acts 1976, No. 697, §1, eff.
