CHAPTER 28-A. PARISH AMBULANCE SERVICE DISTRICTS §9053. Creation; authority of parish governing authority A. The governing authority of any parish is authorized and empowered, upon its own initiative, to form and create one or more ambulance service districts within the parish. However, an incorporated municipality shall only be included within the territory of an ambulance service district upon the concurrence by resolution of the governing authority of the municipality in its inclusion and in the boundaries of the district. The parish governing authority is further authorized to alter the boundaries of any ambulance service district; however, no such boundary change shall cause an impairment of the obligations of any contract of the ambulance service district. B. Upon failure or refusal of a parish governing authority to create an ambulance district and upon presentation of a petition signed by not less than twenty-five percent of the registered voters of the parish, the parish governing authority shall call an election to determine if an ambulance district should be created. If a majority of the vote cast is in favor of such creation, the parish governing authority shall create such a district. Acts 1985, No. 121, §1, eff. June 29, 1985.
