The board of trustees may adopt rules for installment payments to buy service credit, but most payments under those rules cannot be used for retirees, deceased persons, or current service. About this statute
The board of trustees may adopt rules for installment payments to buy service credit, but most payments under those rules cannot be used for retirees, deceased persons, or current service. A designated beneficiary, or if none exists the decedent’s personal representative, may instead establish or reestablish service in one death-benefit situation, and the payment must be made as a lump sum within 60 days after death notice.
