A license lasts two years, can be renewed under set fee rules, and the medical board must send expiration notice at least 30 days before expiration.
Sec. 602.210. LICENSE TERM AND RENEWAL. (a) A license is valid for two years from the date of issuance and may be renewed. (b) The medical board by rule may adopt a system under which licenses expire on various dates during the year. (c) A person may renew an unexpired license by paying the required renewal fee to the medical board before the expiration date of the license. (d) If a person's license has been expired for 90 days or less, the person may renew the license by paying to the medical board the required renewal fee and a penalty fee in an amount equal to one-half of the amount of the renewal fee. (e) If a person's license has been expired for longer than 90 days but less than one year, the person may renew the license by paying to the medical board the renewal fee that was due at expiration and a penalty fee in an amount equal to the amount of the renewal fee. (f) If a person's license has been expired for one year or longer, the person may not renew the license. To obtain a new license, a person must comply with the requirements and procedures for obtaining an original license, including the examination requirement. (g) Not later than the 30th day before the date a person's license expires, the medical board shall send written notice of the impending license expiration to the person at the license holder's last known address according to the records of the medical board.
