Transportation Code § 728.021

Sec. 728.021. TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP OF CERTAIN EMERGENCY VEHICLES; OFFENSE. (a) The owner of an authorized emergency vehicle that is used to transport sick or injured persons commits an offense if the owner transfers ownership of the vehicle without: (1) removing from the vehicle any vehicle equipment, including a light, siren, or device, that under Subtitle C only an authorized emergency vehicle may be equipped with; and (2) removing or obliterating any emblem or marking on the vehicle that identifies the vehicle as an authorized emergency vehicle. (b) Subsection (a) does not apply if the owner of the vehicle transfers ownership of the vehicle to a person: (1) who holds a license as an emergency medical services provider under Chapter 773, Health and Safety Code; (2) who is in the business of buying and selling used vehicles in this state and who specializes in authorized emergency vehicles; or (3) described by Section 541.201 or a similar person operating in a foreign country. (c) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor. (d) In this section: (1) "Authorized emergency vehicle" has the meaning assigned by Section 541.201. (2) "Vehicle equipment" has the meaning assigned by Section 547.001. Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.
