Transportation Code § 623.014

Sec. 623.014. TRANSFER OF PERMIT. (a) A permit issued under Section 623.011 may not be transferred. (b) If the vehicle for which a permit was issued is destroyed or permanently inoperable, a person may apply to the department for a credit for the remainder of the permit period. (c) The department shall issue the prorated credit if the person: (1) pays the fee adopted by the board; and (2) provides the department with: (A) the original permit; or (B) if the original permit does not exist, written evidence in a form approved by the department that the vehicle has been destroyed or is permanently inoperable. (d) The fee adopted by the board under Subsection (c)(1) may not exceed the cost of issuing the credit. A fee collected by the department under Subsection (c)(1) shall be deposited to the credit of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles fund. (e) A credit issued under Subsection (c) may be used only toward the payment of a permit fee under this subchapter. Acts 1995, 74th Leg., ch. 165, Sec. 1, eff. Sept. 1, 1995.
