Transportation Code § 521.165

Sec. 521.165. TESTING BY OTHER ENTITIES. (a) The director may certify and set standards for the certification of certain employers, government agencies, and other appropriate organizations to allow those persons to train and test for the ability to operate certain types of vehicles. (b) The department shall set the standards for the training and testing of driver's license applicants under Subsection (a). (c) Except as provided by Subsection (d), in issuing a driver's license for certain types of vehicles, the director may waive a driving test for an applicant who has successfully completed and passed the training and testing conducted by a person certified under Subsection (a). (d) The director may not waive the driving test required by Section 521.161 for an applicant who is under 18 years of age. (e) The department may authorize an entity described by Subsection (a), including a driver education provider described by Section 521.1655, to administer the examination required by Section 521.161(b)(2).
