Estates Code § 254.002
If a devisee is also a subscribing witness and the will cannot be otherwise established, the bequest is void and the witness must testify; if the witness would inherit intestate, the witness may keep up to the value of the bequest. Corroboration by a disinterested credible person prevents voiding and incompetency.
