Occupations Code § 504.158

Sec. 504.158. PROVISIONAL LICENSE. (a) The department may issue a provisional license to an applicant who is licensed in another state. An applicant for a provisional license under this section must: (1) be licensed in good standing as a chemical dependency counselor at least two years in another state or country that has licensing requirements substantially equivalent to the requirements of this chapter; (2) have passed a national or other examination recognized by the department relating to the practice of chemical dependency counseling; and (3) be sponsored by a person licensed by the department under this chapter with whom the provisional license holder may practice. (b) The department may waive the requirement of Subsection (a)(3) if the department determines that compliance with that subsection would constitute a hardship to the applicant. (c) The executive commissioner by rule may establish a fee for a provisional license. (d) A provisional license is valid until the date the department approves or denies the provisional license holder's application for a license under Section 504.159.
