About this statute

This provision gives the Act its short title: the Agricultural Products Levy Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including agricultural product, animal, dealer, producer, producers’ association, marketing or levy law, class, and sell. This section says the Act does not apply to obsolete matters and to certain agricultural products, including obsolete agricultural products and products produced and consumed by the producer or used to feed livestock and poultry. Producers must pay a levy on agricultural products they produce, at a rate set by the Minister within the limits in subsection (4). The Minister may declare something produced in agriculture to be an agricultural product, but only subject to subsection (2).
