About this statute
This section gives the Act’s short title: it may be cited as the Contempt of Court (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act. A person is not guilty of contempt of court for publishing or distributing certain material if they took all reasonable care and did not know, and had no reason to suspect, the relevant proceedings or the material’s nature. Publishing information about private court proceedings is generally not contempt of court, but there are listed exceptions. This section restricts publishing certain details from judicial proceedings and creates an offence for breaches. This section lets certain people appeal contempt-of-court orders or decisions, sets the appeal path to the High Court or Supreme Court, and says appeals must follow the Criminal Procedure Code or Supreme Court of Zambia Act as appropriate.
