Purpose and legislative effect
“This section gives the Act its short title: the Bretton Woods Agreement Act.”
This section gives the Act its short title: the Bretton Woods Agreement Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including the Bank, the Fund, related agreements and resolutions, and two special accounts/departments. The President may authorize named persons to sign and deposit acceptance instruments for the Fund and Bank agreements on behalf of the Government of Zambia. This section requires certain payments to the Fund and the Bank to be paid from Zambia’s general revenues, and lets the Minister create notes or borrow by issuing securities for those payments. Certain provisions of the Fund Agreement and Bank Agreement have the force of law in Zambia, but they are not to be read as giving the Fund or Bank duty-free import rights or extra tax or duty exemptions in the listed cases.
