About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title: the Firearms Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act, including firearms, ammunition, licences, officials, clubs, warehouses, tourists, and transfers. This Act generally applies to all firearms and ammunition, but the Minister may exempt particular types or descriptions by statutory instrument. A Central Firearms Registry is established, and the Minister must appoint a Registrar to manage it. This section names the authorities that issue firearm licences and firearms dealer's licences: the relevant council in a municipal or township area, or otherwise the authority or person the Minister prescribes.
