About this statute

This section says the Act may be cited as the Refugees (Control) Act. This section defines key terms used in the Act. The Minister may declare certain classes of people to be refugees, but the declaration does not apply to listed exempt groups. In disputes, the person concerned must prove they are not a refugee or not in a particular refugee category. The Minister may declare parts of Zambia as refugee reception or residence areas, set up refugee settlements in those areas, and appoint a refugee officer in charge. The Minister may order refugees to use specified routes or places when entering, leaving, or moving within Zambia.
