About this statute

This section gives the Act’s short title: the Housing (Statutory and Improvement Areas) Act. Laws that conflict with this Act do not apply to land in a Statutory Housing Area or an Improvement Area. This section defines terms used in the Act. The Minister may declare land within a council’s jurisdiction to be a Statutory Housing Area, and may later declare all or part of it to stop being part of that area, if the stated land-title and plan-deposit conditions are met. A council may subdivide, build on, improve, and let land in a Statutory Housing Area, but only with the stated approvals and subject to limits on sales and certain lettings.
