Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act, 1985

1. This Act may be cited as the Dangerous Drugs (Amend­ ment) Act, 1985, and shall be read as one with the Dangerous Drugs Act, hereinaftor referred to as the principal Act. Short title Cap.549

2. Section nineteen of the principal Act is amended- Amendment of section 10 (a) in subsection (1) by the deletion of "five hundred kwacha." and the substitution therefor of " two thousand kwacha. " ; (b) in subsoction (2) by tho deletion of "one hundred kwacha. " and the substitution therefor of " one thousand kwacha ".

3. The principal Act is a.mended by tho insertion, imme­ diately after section nineteen, of the following new section: Insortion ofseotion 19A

19A. Notwithstanding the penalties provided for in Penalty section nineteen, where a person is convicted of an offence [0r under this Act, and the court is satisfied that the oJJonce relates to trafficking in any drug to which Part Il, III or IV of the Act applies, the offender shall be liable to an unlimited fine of not less than two thous11.nd kwacha. or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding fifteen years or to both such fine and imprisonment. king m ra 0 Sit-iglt oopiea of thia Act may be obtained from the Government Prinkr, P.O.
