Electoral (Amendment) [No.4 of2001 19 GOVERNMENT OF ZAMBIA ACT No. 4of2001 Date of Assent: 22nd March, 2001 An Act to amend the Electoral Act ENACTED by the Parliament of Zambia. [ 1. This Act may be cited as the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 2001, and shall be read as one with the Electoral Act, in this Act referred to as the principal Act. 2. The principal Act is amended in section.five by- (a) the re-numbering of section.five as section 5 (1); and (b) the insertion immediately after subsection (1) of the following new subsections: Enactment Short title Cap.13 Amendment of section 5 (2) The Commission shall compile, maintain and update on a continuing basis, a register of voters, which shall include the names of all persons entitled to vote in any direct election, local government election under the Local Government Elections Act or referendum under the Referendum Act: Provided that the registerof voters shall not preclude any person from voting in a referendum under Article 79 (3) of the Constitution. Price K500 each. *··· 20 No. 4 of 2001] Electoral (Amendment) (3) Notwithstanding subsection (2), the Commission may, by regulation, provide for periods during which the registration of persons referred to in subsection (2) is to be suspended for the purposes of- ( a) an election; or (b) compiling and updating the register.
