About this statute

This Act may be cited as the Fisheries Act, 2011. This section defines key terms used in the Act. The Public Service Commission must appoint fisheries staff, and the Director and Minister have powers over administration and delegation. This section lists the Department’s and Director’s functions in fisheries management, including conservation, regulation, permits, research, coordination, and administration. The Minister may appoint honorary fisheries officers by Gazette notice, after consulting the Director, and set the terms and conditions.
