Statute overview

About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title and says it starts on a date the Minister appoints by statutory instrument. This section defines several terms used in the Act, unless the context requires otherwise. The Court is made up of the Judge President, the Deputy Judge President, and the number of judges prescribed. The Court can hear appeals from the High Court and certain quasi-judicial bodies, but not a local government elections tribunal. If a constitutional question arises, the Court must refer it to the Constitutional Court. Court sittings are usually to be held in Lusaka, but the Chief Justice may specify another place by circuit schedule. The Court normally sits with an odd number of at least three judges, except interlocutory applications may be heard by a single judge.
