About this statute

This Act applies to animals, animal products, animal by-products, areas, and persons declared by the Minister by notice in the Gazette. The Animal Identification and Traceability Unit is established in the ministry responsible for livestock and must implement the Act. The Unit must carry out a range of functions on animal identification and traceability, including registering animals, issuing certificates and marks, maintaining a database, coordinating with government agencies, and providing training. The Civil Service Commission must appoint a Traceability Officer, Assistant Traceability Officers, and any other necessary staff. The Traceability Officer is responsible for day-to-day administration and may delegate functions in writing, subject to the Act and the Director’s directions. The Traceability Officer may inspect, search, seize, detain, and collect copies or samples in certain cases, and people must not obstruct or mislead the officer.
