Statute overview

About this statute

This section gives the Act its short title and says it starts on a date appointed by the Minister by statutory instrument. This section defines terms used in the Act, including the Cotton Board, cotton-related products, key offices, and related institutions. The Cotton Board of Zambia continues under this Act as a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal, and it can sue and be sued in its own name. The Cotton Board of Zambia is responsible for regulating, monitoring, and supporting cotton production and marketing, setting standards, determining levies and indicative prices, and advising the Government. This section sets up the Cotton Board of Zambia, says the Minister appoints its part-time members, requires specified bodies to nominate representatives, lets board members elect a Vice-Chairperson, and bars certain disqualified people from being nominated or appointed.
