“This section gives the short title of the By-laws.”

This section gives the short title of the By-laws. This section defines several terms used in the by-laws. People who slaughter cattle in the area for meat sales, or who export cattle from the area, must pay a cattle levy to the Council. No person may slaughter cattle in the area to sell the meat or export cattle unless the cattle levy has been paid. Cattle levy becomes payable once the cattle has been weighed at the check-point, and the collector must issue an official receipt immediately when payment is made.

In theso By-laws, unless tho context otherwise requires-­ "area" means the area under the jurisdiction of the lnt.orpro­ tat1on Conncil; "cattle" me1,11s bulls, c:> .v3, hoifera, calvos, oxen, pigs, sheep and goats and any part thereof whother dead or alive; "check-point" means any placd within tho area designated by the Council for tho PJ.Jtn'3ut, of c:i,tLle levy; "collector " means any officer of the Council authorised to collect revenue for the Council ; "Council" means the Chadizn District Council; "movement permit" means a permit issued by a Veteri­ nary Officer under the provisions of tho Stock Diseases Regulations.

§ 5Section 5Provision

Cattle levy becomes payable once the cattle has been weighed at the check-point, and the collector must issue an official receipt immediately when payment is made.

5. (1) Cattle levy shall become payable as soon as the cattle has been weighed at the check-point. (2) Payment of cattle levy in respect of any weight of cattle shall be made at the check-point and shall be received by a collector who shall immediately issue an official receipt for each such payment. .
§ 6Any person· who. contravenes any of the provisions ofOffence

Any person who contravenes these By-laws commits an offence and may be fined or imprisoned.

6. Any person· who. contravenes any of the provisions of these By-laws shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable upon conviction- · · - · (a) in the case of a first offence, to a fine not.exceeding on e nundred kwacha or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months, or to both; (b) in the case of a second or subsequent offence, to a fine not exceeding two hundred kwacha or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months, or to both.
