Public Service (Retirement Age) Regulations, 2023

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Public Service Title (Retirement Age) Regulations, 2023.

2. In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires— Interpretation “officer” has the meaning assigned to the word in the Act.

3. These Regulations do not apply to an officer of, or below, Application the rank of Chief— (a) Inspector in the Zambia Police Service; and (b) Officer III in the Zambia Correctional Service.

4. (1) Notwithstanding section 33 of the Act, an officer— (a) shall retire on the sixtieth anniversary of the date of the Age of retirement of officer officer’s birthday; or (b) may, on giving twelve month’s notice, and subject to the approval of the President, retire on attaining the age of fifty-five or sixty-five years. Price K4.00 each. 74 Statutory Instruments 5th May, 2023 (2) Despite subregulation (1), an officer in the Defence Force shall retire, in the case of— (a) Private Soldier to Major, on attaining the age of fifty-five years; (b) Warrant Officer Class II, on attaining the age of fifty- seven years; (c) Warrant Officer Class I, on attaining the age of sixty years; (d) Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel, on attaining the age of fifty-seven years; and (e) Brigadier General and above— (i) on attaining the age of sixty years; or (ii) where the officer on giving twelve months’ prior notice and subject to the approval of the President, attains the age of sixty-five years.
