This provision gives the Regulations’ short citation title. This section defines “officer” as having the meaning given in the Act, unless the context requires otherwise. These Regulations do not apply to members of the Defence Force, certain Zambia Police Service officers, or certain Zambia Correctional Service officers. An officer must retire at age 60, but may retire at age 55 or 65 if they give 12 months’ notice and the President approves. An officer who retires under regulation 4 is entitled to retirement benefits under section 41 of the Act, starting from the retirement date.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Public Service Title (Retirement Age) Regulations, 2024.

These Regulations do not apply to members of the Defence Force, certain Zambia Police Service officers, or certain Zambia Correctional Service officers.

3. These Regulations do not apply to— Application (a) (b) (c) a member of the Defence Force; an officer of, or below, the rank of Chief Inspector in the Zambia Police Service; and an officer of, or below, the rank of Chief Officer III in the Zambia Correctional Service.

§ 4Despite section 33 of the Act, an officerProvision

An officer must retire at age 60, but may retire at age 55 or 65 if they give 12 months’ notice and the President approves.

4. Despite section 33 of the Act, an officer— (a) shall retire on the sixtieth anniversary of the date of the officer’s birth; or (b) may, on giving twelve month’s notice, and subject to the approval of the President, retire on attaining the age of fifty-five or sixty five years. An officer who retires under regulation 4 is entitled to retirement benefits under section 41 of the Act, starting from the retirement date.

5. An officer who retires under regulation 4 shall, with effect from the date of the officer’s retirement, be entitled to retirement benefits as specified under section 41 of the Act.
