The appellate court convicted the applicant for an offence of which he had been acquitted at first instance, after reassessing facts and credibility, without hearing him in person. Viewing a video-recording did not compensate for the lack of a personal hearing. This failure violated the applicant's right to a fair trial under Article 6 § 1 of the Convention.
