The trial court erred in exercising its discretion by considering only the respondent's alleged financial hardship without adequate evidence or full consideration of the appellant's right to prompt payment. The proposal to settle the decretal sum over nine years was unreasonable and unjust, especially given the circumstances under which the debt was incurred and the lack of bona fides in the respondent's offer. Furthermore, the trial court had no jurisdiction to waive interest on the principal sum after judgment had been entered, as it was functus officio and no application for review or sufficient cause was before it.
