The court found that the Managing Director, acting with the authority of the Board, expressly promised the Claimant payment for the remaining part of his contract if he opted for early separation. The Claimant relied on this promise to his detriment by relinquishing his position and separating from employment. The Respondent is estopped from reneging on this promise, and must honor the commitment made through its Managing Director. However, allowances meant to facilitate work (fuel, telephone, entertainment) are not payable post-termination.
