The correct approach is to deduct only statutory deductions (P.A.Y.E, N.H.I.F, N.S.S.F) from the gross salary, as other deductions are for the benefit of the family and thus form part of the dependency. Applying this principle, the court recalculated the net monthly income to be Kshs.38,748.90, and using the appropriate multiplier and dependency ratio, substituted the trial court's award for loss of dependency with a higher sum.
