The proceedings were unduly rushed, denying the accused adequate time and facilities to prepare a defence, and the prosecution failed to provide witness statements in advance, contrary to Article 50(2)(j) of the Constitution. The trial magistrate's refusal to recall prosecution witnesses for cross-examination after the accused obtained legal representation further prejudiced the defence.
