Republic, the Court determined that the interests of justice required a retrial, given the seriousness of the charges and the loss suffered by the complainants, despite the passage of time and the appellant's period in custody. The Court therefore quashed the conviction, set aside the sentence, and ordered a retrial before a different magistrate.
