The court held that the trial court did not err in finding that the effective date of the respondent's dismissal was the date he received the signed dismissal letter, being 14th March 2019, and thus the respondent was entitled to salary arrears up to that date. The court found no evidence that the respondent had absconded duty or that the appellant had properly communicated an earlier dismissal date. However, the court determined that the award of severance pay was erroneous, as severance is only payable in cases of redundancy, not for dismissal on grounds of misconduct.
