The court found that the Defendants could not claim adverse possession over the suit property because the land was government land until 4th May 2006, when the Plaintiff became the registered owner. The statutory period for adverse possession could only begin from the date of registration, not from the date of allocation or earlier occupation. As the suit was filed in July 2012, the Defendants had only been in occupation for slightly over six years after registration, which is short of the twelve years required by law.
