The evidence placed the appellant at the scene but did not conclusively establish her participation in the assault. The appellant's defence was credible and raised reasonable doubt as to her involvement. Applying the principle that proof beyond reasonable doubt does not require proof beyond any shadow of doubt, the court resolved the doubt in favour of the appellant. Consequently, the conviction was quashed and the sentence set aside.
